The rich history of nursing at MedStar Union Memorial is savored and protected by those who learned the career in the hospital's nursing school - the alumni. Currently, there are 454 active members of the association.
Officially known as The Alumni Association of the MedStar Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, the organization exists to:
- Provide educational programs for professional development
- Provide financial assistance for continuing formal education
- Stimulate interest in MedStar Union Memorial Hospital nursing program
- Support and cooperate with professional organizations
Originally instituted in 1903, the alumni association has been the driving force for good relationships between nurses and the hospital at large. By providing two scholarships a year to nursing students, the association seeks to promote the field of nursing in the Baltimore region.
Benefits of membership
The advantages of alumni association membership include opportunities to network with colleagues and gain information on various topics at the meetings each April and October. Additionally, there are social functions throughout the year.
Members also are eligible for the Roberta Lee Ball and Susan G. Rosenberg scholarship which is given to at least one graduate each year to further his or her studies.
