Interactive Event Provides Consumers Real Time Access to Experts
BALTIMORE—(March 21, 2019)—MedStar Orthopaedic Institute will host The Future of Orthopaedics is Here webcast, on Facebook Live, Wednesday, March 27, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Moderated by WMAR ABC news anchor Kelly Swoope, the live interactive forum will stream from MedStar Orthopaedic Institute in Timonium and will feature top orthopaedic surgeons and therapists for discussions on the latest innovations in joint replacement, robotic surgery, rehabilitative approaches and more.
Viewers and in-house audience members will interact with a panel of five orthopaedic surgeons: Drs. Henry Boucher, Allison Fillar, Bradley Moatz, Robert McKinstry and Jason Stein, as well as physical therapists Tony Viglione and Pat Miller from MedStar National Rehabilitation Network. Topics include robotic hip, knee, and spine surgery, pain management, and outpatient sports medicine and hip, knee and shoulder replacements.
The audience will get a primer on robotic devices that are reshaping the landscape of orthopaedic surgery. They’ll learn about robotic-arm assisted technology available to map a hip or knee for minimally-invasive replacement surgery. Robotic advancements are advancing spine surgery too. Using ExcelsiusGPS, surgeons are performing less invasive procedures with greater precision in hardware placement.
MedStar Union Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in the state using robotics for both joint replacement and spine surgery.
Viewers will learn about outpatient joint replacement surgeries that allow patients to go home to recover on the same day.
The live webcast will be streamed from the lobby of MedStar Health’s orthopaedics, sports medicine and rehabilitation center in Timonium, which opened in August 2017. The 46,000-square-foot building offers services including orthopaedics, spine, sports medicine, physiatry, pain management, outpatient surgery and rehabilitation. The site also has a surgery center for same-day joint replacements and other outpatient procedures.
Viewers at home can watch the webcast live and pose questions to the experts on the MedStar Health Facebook page. On Twitter, use hashtag #AskMedStar to send your questions. Visit medstarortho.org/webcast2019.
