MedStar Union Memorial Hospital has been named one of “100 Hospitals with Great Orthopaedic Programs” by Becker’s Hospital Review. This most recent accolade further demonstrates MedStar Union Memorial’s commitment to providing quality care to patients with orthopaedic needs.

Nationally-recognized for excellence in orthopaedics and sports medicine, MedStar Union Memorial is home to one of the world’s largest hand centers and a comprehensive sports medicine program, with specialists fellowship-trained in care of the hand, foot and ankle, joint replacement, spine and sports medicine. MedStar Union Memorial has been ranked nationally for orthopaedics by U.S. News & World Report, and is the first hospital in the state of Maryland to receive spine certification by The Joint Commission (TJC).

MedStar Union Memorial’s orthopaedic program is part of MedStar Orthopaedics, the clinical program providing orthopaedics, sports medicine and spine surgery services at MedStar hospitals in the Baltimore region. MedStar Orthopaedics is comprised of experts from MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, MedStar Harbor Hospital, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, The Curtis National Hand Center, and more than a dozen community locations.

“We are proud to be ranked among the nation’s top orthopaedic programs,” said Les Matthews, MD, MedStar Sports Medicine clinician and chief of orthopaedic surgery at MedStar Union Memorial. “Our team strives to provide unparalleled care to all of our patients. This recognition mirrors that commitment.”

Becker’s list includes hospitals with orthopaedic surgery departments, programs or dedicated centers that have earned considerable recognition. Exceptional orthopaedic departments often include physicians who provide outstanding patient care, advance cutting-edge orthopaedic research and treat professional athletes. To devise this list, the Becker’s editorial team weighted the hospital’s aforementioned rankings and recognition, in addition to conducting extensive research.
